Your Comfort is Our Priority
If visiting the dentist or undergoing a particular procedure causes your heart to pound, you are no different than many of our patients. In fact, dental phobia is a condition that affects many Americans, and serious anxiety can inhibit you from seeking the dental care you need to maintain good oral health and a beautiful smile. It is important for our patients to understand they are not alone, and that dental anxiety can easily be managed and overcome. Throughout every stage of your treatment, our team is committed to ensuring your complete comfort in a relaxing environment.
Choosing Your Sedation Method
We offer a range of sedation dentistry options that can make your treatment painless, while promoting feelings of deep relaxation. Dr. Gooch will work closely with you to choose an appropriate sedative for you, depending on your condition, treatment goals, and the procedure you are undergoing.
More commonly referred to as “laughing gas,” Dr. Gooch uses nitrous oxide for both adults and children who want to achieve a calmer state while reducing discomfort. This type of sedation is inhaled, and is easy to monitor and adjust throughout your treatment. The effects of nitrous oxide wear off quickly, and it is the only sedation method that allows patients to safely drive home after their procedure.
Oral sedation uses pills like Valium and Ativan to relax a patient’s nervous system. If you choose to be orally sedated, you will take a pill before you come into the office or before your procedure. The effects will help you achieve a deeply relaxed state, which may take several hours to wear off. Although you will be able to respond to verbal cues while you are sedated, you may not remember much of your visit. In addition, you will need to have a friend or family member drive you home after your visit.
